FIDIC has relaunched its Membership Committee as part of a significant strengthening and upgrading of its committee structure and international external affairs and stakeholder relations capability.
The revamped committee, which has a new chair and a majority of new members, will oversee all aspects of the global federation’s membership, including recruitment and retention, communication with members, developing strategies for FIDIC to attract and retain members, identifying trends around membership issues within similar global associations and advising the FIDIC board and staff on all aspects of FIDIC membership across the consulting engineering industry.
Commenting on the relaunch of the committee, FIDIC chief executive Dr Nelson Ogunshakin said: “The relaunch of our Membership Committee is part of a detailed and thorough review of FIDIC’s public engagement work where we have sought to ensure that our committees and other representative bodies better reflect geographic diversification and have the right skills set to be more effective in a changing marketplace. Competition was stiff to sit on these revamped committees, with over 350 industry experts from around the world applying to be members.
“The newly relaunched Membership Committee, in common with a number of other revamped committees we are announcing, will enable FIDIC to be more external facing and help us to make a positive impact on and influence in the global infrastructure industry. Going forward, this relaunched committee will enable FIDIC to be more vocal and more visible to meet the challenges our industry faces as it moves out of the Covid crisis and beyond.”
The new chair of the FIDIC Membership Committee is Iain Aitchison, a managing director in the expert services firm, Ankura, based in the UK. Commenting on his new role, he said: “I’m honoured to be appointed by FIDIC to chair this important committee. FIDIC’s member associations are its lifeblood and engaging them in an effective way that promotes better dialogue and greater understanding of their needs is a top priority for the federation.
“The current Covid-19 crisis and FIDIC’s response to it has shown beyond doubt the value of a global membership organisation in supporting its members interests and highlighting their key role in the international construction and infrastructure sector. A key task of the FIDIC Membership Committee will be to help to promote the value of membership more widely so that our member associations better understand and appreciate the services that FIDIC carries out on behalf of the global consulting engineering industry.”
